About
Crete Public Schools serves 6 rural communities, of which Crete is the largest, consisting of over 7,000 residents. Major employers in Crete include Smithfield Foods, Bunge Mills, Nestle, and Doane University. The District, which maintains the highest available accreditation via The Nebraska Department of Education, serves over 2,000 students from pre-K through 12th grade and provides adult GED and English Language Learner programs. Key aspects of the district's mission include developing respectful and productive citizens while providing support for their families and communities. The changing demographics within the community resulted in programs that now serve approximately 300 children through preschool services and over 500 students through English language classes. Students at the high school have the opportunity to take many different Advanced Placement courses and multiple dual college credit opportunities. World language classes begin in kindergarten and continue as electives in high school.
Crete Public Schools offers the majority of student programming at four sites:
Elementary - Preschool and K-2 grade
Intermediate - 3rd through 5th grade
Middle School - 6th through 8th grade
High School - 9th through 12th grade
Additional services for students will sometimes take place in off-site areas and include: Success Academy, Adult Basic Education, General Equivalency Diploma, English as a Second Language, Even Start and preschool programs.
The Nebraska Schools Activities Association (NSAA) classifies Crete as a "Class B" high school. The district offers a wide variety of activities and clubs well beyond the supervision of the NSAA. In addition to athletics and fine arts, many clubs such as World Language, Future Scientists, Robotics, Mock Trial, etc. are enjoyed by high school students. The elementary and middle schools also promote positive activities which encourage academic and physical development.
Crete also supports and encourages a wide range of activities that include: sports, speech, band, chorus, FFA, FBLA, FSA, and many others.
